About A.D.R. Bulbs, Inc

A.D.R. Bulbs traces its origins back to May 12th, 1946...

founded in a small basement office in Wyckoff, New Jersey by Simon Ruigrok Sr., a Dutch bulb grower.

Originally named Ruigrok Bulbs, the Wyckoff location served mainly as a US distribution center for the farm until 1978 when the company acquired two local flower bulb wholesalers; DeGroot Bulb Company and George Alkemade Inc, thus becoming A.D.R. Bulbs, Inc.

Now in need of new facilities and someone to manage his growing American operation, Simon Sr. turned to his young cousin and salesman Walter who agreed to relocate from Holland and live in the United States full time to manage A.D.R. Bulbs.

In 1983 with the basement office no longer sufficient, A.D.R. Bulbs relocated to a 12,000 square foot facility in Bloomingburg, New York where the company began to grow their wholesale flower bulb and plant business adding a retail line to go along with their existing bulk flower bulb program.

In 1987, Simon Sr.'s son, Simon Jr. took over the growing operation in the Netherlands and joined A.D.R. Bulbs to travel New England for the company.

The 1995 acquisition of Chester, NY's Leading Bulb Industries (led by Rudy Bonkenburg) sparked another round of expansion, as A.D.R. Bulbs began shipping to the Midwest and West Coast. 

This was soon followed by the acquisition of New Jersey wholesaler Neal Bulb, and the arrival of three new sales representatives.

In February of 2005, Walter's son Chris joined A.D.R. Bulbs and began selling in New England, becoming the 4th generation of Ruigrok's to join the family business.

In the summer of 2006, A.D.R. Bulbs reached its capacity at the Bloomingburg facility and relocated to a new 33,000 square foot facility in Chester, New York where we are presently located. The new facilities include over 10,000 square feet of cooling, freezing and heating rooms which allow for optimal conditions for our wholesale flower bulbs and perennials.

A.D.R. next acquired the storied Dutch bulb company Van Eeden Brothers in August of 2008, expanding our retail garden center business in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions.

July of 2019 marked further expansion, as the International Bulb Company (led by Jan Doornbosch) joined our companies, further solidifying our industry leading presence in the Northeast. 

In October of 2019, Carlo Ruigrok (Simon Ruigrok Sr.'s grandson) began selling in New England. In October of 2022, his brother Philip Ruigrok joined the company as well, together representing the 5th generation of Ruigrok's involved in A.D.R. 

Present day A.D.R. Bulbs has grown into a nationwide business that ships to all 50 states in the USA. Our product line has expanded to include not only our signature wholesale Dutch flower bulbs, but also bulbs from England, India, Israel, Peru, Scotland, South Africa as well as a full line of USA grown bulbs.
